Celtic have made the first move in the chase for Airdrieonians winger Thomas Robert as they get set to offer him a training stint.

Interest in the French winger has been well-documented since he arrived in Scotland last summer from Ligue 1 Montpellier. Aberdeen, Celtic, Dundee United and Rangers are just some of the teams seemingly interested.

Multiple clubs down south are monitoring his progress too. Robert arrived in North Lanarkshire after turning down a new contract in the top flight of French football as he looked to pursue regular senior opportunities.

He’s found that with the Diamonds and it looks set to earn him a big move somewhere. Celtic seemingly want that switch to be Parkhead as they look to give him a sample of Hoops life by offering Robert a training stint at Lennoxtown.

This would be with a view to making a permanent switch in the summer. Robert last played in January after the shutdown of the lower leagues in Scotland, Airdrie in the middle of a promotion push in Scotland’s third tier.

It’s a period of change for the Diamonds, who announced recently that director of football Stuart Millar had left the club: “Stuart has made an excellent contribution towards improving many aspects of the club over the last two years and we wish him all the best for the future.

“The club are currently making every effort to ensure that our league campaign is restarted and will provide a further update in due course.”
