John Beaton will take charge of the Scottish Cup final between Celtic v Hearts at Hampden in a couple of weeks time.

It will be the first time the whistler will be given the opportunity to referee the Hampden showpiece, with Frank Connor and Graeme Leslie taking linesman positions when Hearts look to dethrone Celtic.

Alan Muir will be fourth official on the 20th of December while Kevin Clancy and Nick Walsh will be placed as additional refs behind each of the nets.

Beaton has been a category one referee for 11 years now, dating back to 2009, and in recent years has been appointed to many big games across Europe.

He has refereed 15 games in all competitions this season, dishing out 59 yellow card and two red cards. His last Hearts match came in the Scottish Cup earlier this year when the Jambos faced Falkirk.

The final takes place a week on Sunday, where Robbie Neilson’s men will look to take the Scottish Cup off a Celtic side who have won it for the last few seasons.

And with the Hoops wobbling as of late, the Jambos may see this as a chance to create history and an upset.
