Charlie Mulgrew has been linked with a return to the Scottish Premiership as ex-club Dundee United are thought to be after the former Celtic centre-back (Daily Mail).

Mulgrew was released by Blackburn Rovers at the end of the 2020/21 English Championship season and is on the lookout for a new club. The defender spent time at Dundee United on loan during his first Celtic spell in 2006, prior to heading for a two-year stint in English football.

Now 35, Mulgrew has won five Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic and has also featured for Aberdeen, Wigan Athletic and Fleetwood Town. He has made 44 appearances for Scotland.

Aware of interest from Dundee United, Mulgrew is back north of the border following his five-year stay in England with Blackburn. Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle have also claimed an interest in the defender, manager Ian McCall saying last month that Mulgrew was on a Firhill transfer shortlist.

United are currently looking for a new head coach to replace Micky Mellon, who has now been named manager of former club Tranmere Rovers. Academy coach Thomas Courts is believed to be the frontrunner.
