Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour has paid tribute to former manager Frank Lampard after he was sacked by the Premier League club on Monday.
The London side have had an indifferent season so far, and as a result Lampard has lost his job. He is being replaced by former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel. One player who has a lot to thank Lampard for is Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour.
Given Premier League debut
The 19-year-old Scottish star was given his Premier League debut by Lampard last season. He made a breakthrough performance in an FA Cup win over Liverpool. Injury curtailed his season, but the fit again Gilmour has been around the first-team squad this season too.
Now he has paid tribute to Lampard on Twitter.
“Thank you for giving me an opportunity and for your faith and trust in me. It’s been an honour to learn from you” he said.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Gilmour. After all, it was earlier on Monday that Lampard stated that the player could leave the club on loan in the January window (The Sun). That might not be the case now that Lampard has lost his job.
Could leave on loan
However, perhaps the player will still be allowed to leave on loan if clubs are interested. That could depend on new manager Tuchel.
It promises to be an intriguing week for Gilmour one way or another. Only time will tell where his short-term future lies. However, there seems little doubt that he will be disappointed to see Lampard leave Chelsea.
