Oxford United are seemingly targeting as many former Motherwell players as possible this window.

They’ve already confirmed the signing of Alex Gorrin. They recently loaned in Chris Cadden, following his move to the MLS from Motherwell. Elliot Frear was also on trial with the Kassam Stadium side.

Now they’ve been linked with another former Well player. It’s another winger, with ex-Steelman Gboly Ariyibi linked with a move to the club.

Oxford and fellow League One club Doncaster, according to the Daily Mail, have ‘expressed interest’ in the winger.

Would former Motherwell players keep him out the side?

It seems like Oxford want a full winger department consisting of ex-Well pros. What that does mean though is some of them may battle each other for starts.

Ariyibi was good for Motherwell last term, but is he as good as Cadden?

It depends really how Karl Robinson wants his wingers to play. One advantage the American has is that he can play on either wing.

If Robinson wants his wingers to charge down the line and get crosses into the box, Cadden is starting on the right every week. That was his strong point at Fir Park.

Should Robinson wants his wingers to cut inside and contribute goals though, Ariyibi will start on the right. Whilst he didn’t hit the net much at Fir Park, Ariyibi was constantly cutting in from the flanks and trying his luck on goal.

Cadden can only really play on the right. Perhaps the two of them could lineup together, with Ariyibi settling for a place out on the left, if he did indeed join the club.

Who knows what Oxford will adopt from the Well next. Maybe they’ll be playing in claret and amber sometime soon.
