Craig Gordon is preparing to face his old club on Saturday night as Hearts return to domestic duties under the lights at Tynecastle.

It couldn’t be a tougher opposition in Celtic for Gordon who will be tasked with keeping out some of the league’s deadliest players in Gorgie.

Fresh off of international duty with Scotland where Gordon kept a clean sheet in one of the two Nations League encounters, the 41-year-old Hearts stopper says he is ready for an ‘exciting’ game.

Gordon on Hearts facing Celtic

He told Sky Sports: “It’s a great game. We don’t get to play many Saturday night games, it’s unusual. It’s going to be a great atmosphere, the fans will pack the place out and I’m really looking forward to it.

“Off the back of the international break, the fans will be ready to get going again. The players have had a little bit of time off and we’re ready to go. It’s an exciting game for us.

Asked if Hearts can emulate Kilmarnock’s attacking threat when they faced Celtic before the break, Gordon replied: “It’s difficult but that’s what we have to try to do.

“We’ll have to impose ourselves in the game and carry a threat going forward. Everybody knows the quality they have to it’s about dealing with that but also being an attacking team and going for goals as well.”

What Critchley has changed at Hearts

New boss Neil Critchley has now been in charge of seven Hearts games, with three wins taken from those.

It’s been a little inconsistent but Gordon is hopeful that the two key tweaks the former Blackpool manager has made to the Jambos so far will turn decent performances into positive results more often.

“(He’s changed) little things”, Gordon said. “He wants us to be aggressive and wants us to play attacking football. People have maybe seen that in the past few weeks.

“The results haven’t quite been there but the performances have been good and deserving of taking more in the matches we’ve been involved in. If we can continue that and continue to progress, I think we’ll be okay.”
