Cristiano Ronaldo reacts after strop following Scotland draw with Portugal

Cristiano Ronaldo was NOT happy as Portugal drew a blank against Scotland last night.

We’ve all seen it before – the Manchester United hero, now plying his trade in Saudi Arabia, does not like it when he doesn’t get his own way.

The toys were out the pram once more last night as his team of fellow superstars failed to take all three points against a stout and resolute defence, with the likes of Anthony Ralston, Grant Hanley and Craig Gordon shining, with the goalkeeper earning high praise from Portugal boss Roberto Martinez.

As expected, the visitors dominated the game but they were unable to find a breakthrough. They continued to push until the very end but it just wasn’t to be as the Scots held on for a precious point with earns under-pressure Steve Clarke some leeway.

But there was one moment right at the death that infuriated the away skipper.

Cristiano Ronaldo fumes at end of Scotland vs Portugal

Scotland actually went on the attack in the final minute of stoppage time, but then looked vulnerable on the counter. But Portugal could only force a corner, or so they thought.

Instead, referee Lawrence Visser blew the full-time whistle meaning the match ended goalless. Ronaldo was enraged as his team didn’t get the chance to try and score from the set-piece and went into full-on strop mode.

He stormed around gesticulating in animated fashion and venting his frustration to those around, before marching down the Hampden tunnel without shaking any Scottish hands.

But the 39-year-old appeared to have calmed down later, posting to social media a picture of he and his teammates captioned: “Seguimos juntos.” That translates to “We continue together.”

Steve Clarke singles out three Scotland players

Steve Clarke was chuffed with his players’ performance but singled out three for special praise.

He said: “Defensively we were sound, we denied them space in behind, we concentrated well in the box, made some really good blocks and when we needed a big save, the goalkeeper was there.

“It’s the first time in a long time I’ve celebrated a save! I’ve always said Craig’s the ultimate professional and you saw that again here. But everyone contributed.

“I also thought John Souttar and Grant Hanley were excellent. But you have to praise so many players, like Tony Ralston who did well first against Jota and Mendes and later on Leao – I think him coming on did for his calves!

“Recently we’ve had lapses that cost you dear and maybe this time we got a little bit fortunate, but we’ve worked hard to earn those breaks. Everyone talks about their confidence, but the confidence has always been there.

“We maybe didn’t do as much with the ball as on Saturday, but that point against one of the best sides in Europe will give us even more confidence. We’ll go into the next double-header wanting to get even more points.”
