Hamilton Academical hero James McCarthy is set to leave English Premier League side Crystal Palace after the final game of the season (The Athletic).

McCarthy has been down south since leaving Hamilton in 2009 and has turned out for Wigan, Everton and Crystal Palace. He has made 15 league appearances this season as Roy Hodgson’s side head for a mid-table finish.

Still only 30, another club in England looks likely for McCarthy but it won’t be Crystal Palace where he plays his football next season. McCarthy is the shining example for Accies’ academy, playing for the club at 16 before putting his name in lights down south alongside James McArthur, a fellow Hamilton hero.

The South Lanarkshire side will play Scottish Championship football for the first time in seven years after their relegation from the Premiership in the 2020/21 season.
