Stewart Petrie has confessed his disappointment after Montrose went down 3-2 to Clyde at Broadwood.
Montrose were by far the better team over the course of the afternoon but their lack of instinctive, clinical finishing came back to haunt them as chance after chance went untaken.

“We created enough chances in the game,” said Petrie. “But if you’re going to defend like that you’re not going to win games. Goals two and three come from us having possession of the ball. So it’s not good enough.
“We need to defend better from front to back.”
A David Goodwillie hat-trick consigned Montrose to defeat, despite Montrose pulling level twice through Russell McLean and Chris Mochrie. Danny Lennon on the other hand was delighted with his side’s win, despite spending large spells of the game under the cosh.

“I thought we were very good, Our game plan was carried out very well, we looked to hit them on the break and that’s where the first goal came from,” said Lennon.
“One of the most pleasing things for me today is the fact that each time we’ve went into the lead and they’ve [Montrose] come back, we’ve gave ourselves a lift. I feel we thoroughly deserved the three points.
“This is something we now have to build upon. We’re just happy to stop that poor run of results that we’ve had.”

When asked about the performance of star man David Goodwillie, Lennon was full of praise for the striker: “I think David just grew into the game. He was everything that David Goodwillie is about.”
