Former Aberdeen striker Darren Mackie is confident that his old team can get a result against Celtic at Pittodrie on Sunday.
The Dons go into the game on the back of a convincing 3-0 win over Motherwell, and Mackie believes that results will give Aberdeen a huge boost ahead of the fixture.
“It was a great result as a lot of people were expecting Motherwell to win, especially with Aberdeen’s recent injury problems. They will have taken a huge amount of confidence from that game.” he said, as reported by the Press and Journal.
“Nothing to lose”
“The Dons have nothing to lose and all the pressure will be on Celtic. They have shown they have the ability to match Celtic.”
Aberdeen will need to be at their best to get a result against the current Premiership league leaders. However, a few things could be in Aberdeen’s favour.
Firstly, Celtic will be in action against Lazio on Thursday, which means they won’t get much of a break before travelling to Pittodrie.
Secondly, Celtic’s recent form away from home as been poor. They have only picked up one point from six in their last two away games.
Striker could make a difference
That is a sequence that Aberdeen will be looking to extend come Sunday at Pittodrie. As for who can score the goals that will give the Dons the chance to defeat Celtic, you imagine that will be down to Sam Cosgrove. He is in exceptional form this season, and his recent goal against Motherwell was one of the goals of the season so far.
If he can continue his good run of form, it could be a memorable day for Aberdeen.
