Hibs defender Darren McGregor has confirmed that talks are underway with the Easter Road board about signing a new deal with the club.

McGregor, whose deal expires at the end of the season, has admitted that he wants to sign a new deal.

“There’s been talks” he revealed to the Edinburgh Evening News.

“I’ve touched base with a couple of people at the club. I’m definitely wanting to stay. I’d do anything for the club.”

McGregor has a difficult start to the season to become a regular starter for Hibs in the last few months. He has made 23 appearances this season, and has become a regular under head coach Paul Heckingbottom.

Heckingbottom will no doubt be hoping that McGregor agrees to a new deal with the club.

Even though he is in the veteran stage of his career, McGregor has proven himself to be a key man for Hibernian in their bid to finish in the top six.

He will be a key man for Hibs in their trip to Tynecastle on Saturday. That is a game which needs players to stand up and be counted. McGregor is more than capable of that.

It would round off a good few weeks for the Easter Road side if they clinched a top six place and announced a new deal for McGregor.
