Hibs continued their mini run of form with an away win at Aberdeen to make it just one defeat in their last five.

The Hibees beat the Dons 3-1 at Pittodrie after falling behind early on, with Martin Boyle the star of the show with two assists and a goal.

After the Easter Road men’s miserable start to the season, they seem to have turned things round and after today’s three points they now sit eighth in the Premiership.

It sets them up nicely for Boxing Day’s Edinburgh Derby clash with Hearts, who are still in a terrible place and bottom of the league.

Manager David Gray has time and again had to defend his players this season and insisted they are capable of more, and they repaid him today.

Gray reacts to Hibs win over Aberdeen

Hibs players have had their character questioned this season but showed it in abundance to come back from conceding an early opener and end up winning the game comfortably.

That was the most pleasing aspect for Gray, though he admits to having a bit of luck when Topi Keskinen struck the post at 1-1.

He told BBC Sportsound: “Delighted, especially the reaction to going a goal down because it was a poor goal to lose at a poor time because I thought we actually settled into the game well.

“Lost a poor goal but then the reaction to go straight back into the game was excellent. Probably got a bit of luck when they hit the post, I thought that was a big turning point for us as well.

“But from that moment we controlled the game, created numerous chances and dealt with the conditions better. The game plan worked.”

Martin Boyle hailed by Gray

Boyle was undoubtedly the best player on the park as he caused problems with his place, while playing at centre forward.

He set up the first two goals with brilliant assists and then the finish for his own goal to put the seal on the points was classy too.

Boyle has been in and out of the side and struggling form form and fitness.

But his manager has lauded his attitude throughout a hard period.

He added: “He was excellent. Obviously contributes in terms of goals, gets the goal himself.

“He’s had to be patient, keep working hard. He found himself out the team but he’s reacted exactly how you want a player to.

“He works really hard and everybody knows the level Martin Boyle can produce. He played a lot at the start of the season maybe not quite right, carrying a bit of an injury.

“But he never let his head go down and I’m delighted for him because he has had a tough time of it.”
