Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says it wasn’t nice to lose 2-1 against Hibs as the cinch Premiership outfit secured an impressive result.

Martin Boyle opened the scoring for Jack Ross’ team after an unfortunate error from debutant Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, Daniel Mackay doubling Hibs’ lead after half-time. Emile Smith-Rowe pulled one back for the Premier League visitors but Arteta says support will be given to Okonkwo after Boyle punished him for his error.

The Arsenal manager said: “It was his debut and he was excited. He has earned his place in the first-team after his performances at academy level. He will have a chance on Saturday (against Rangers) to be better. It’s time to support him.

“The positives are in the workout we have had. We have only trained for four days and the second half was an improved performance. It still hurts when I lose a football match, I am never happy. But the positive is we had the opportunity to play some youngsters and hand them their debuts. They should be proud.”
