Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has opened up on what he was impressed by when he first saw Lewis Ferguson in action – and admits “everything” the midfielder does “seems natural.”
Ferguson caught McInnes’ eye playing for Hamilton’s youth sides before eventually making the move to Pittodrie and the Dons boss revealed that he “left a wee impression.”

Since moving to Pittodrie, Ferguson has been a revelation and McInnes even admitted that he couldn’t figure out which foot he kicked with he looked that comfortable.
“I watched him play for Hamilton’s youth teams against my youth teams and he always left a wee impression. I liked his confidence and strength as well as all the technical stuff on his left and right foot,” McInnes told the Daily Record.

“The first time we watched Fergie in a youth game was a couple of years ago and it took me a while before I worked out whether he was left or right-footed. It was just the way he received the ball, a couple of switches of play – he is a natural player. The way he runs, heads, tackles and kicks. Everything he does seems natural.”
Ferguson will have a massive part to play in this weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic and will be hoping to go one better than his dad Derek and lift the trophy.

Since moving to Pittodrie, Fergie has made 39 appearances for the Dons and has scored seven times and chipped in with eight assists.
At only 19, Ferguson could well go on and be a massive player for the Dons in years to come.
