Duncan Ferguson has been dismissed as manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, according to a report.

The troubled League One side entered administration on Tuesday due to a financial crisis and there are huge concerns regarding the future existence of the Highlands club.

Ferguson was appointed manager in September 2023 but failed to keep Inverness in the Championship as they were relegated following a play-off defeat to Hamilton Academical.

The club have since got themselves into serious financial bother with a reported £1.2m lost last season – similar losses have been forecasted for this season.

Ferguson waived his salary at the beginning of October to try and help the club, with Inverness doing their all to raise funds.

A desperate search for new investment was had but the club were eventually put into administration with James Stephen, Malcolm Cohen and Shane Crooks of BDO appointed.

Inverness have been deducted 15 points by the SPFL as a result and face relegation to League Two as it stands. This came before Ferguson’s sacking, which has now been reported by Sky Sports and BBC Scotland.

Sky Sports News stated on Thursday afternoon: “Sky Sports News understands that Duncan Ferguson has been relieved of his duties as manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle by administrators appointed to the club this week.”

Ferguson speaks after Inverness CT sack

The former Dundee United and Everton forward spoke to BBC Scotland News after his dismissal and said he gave his all for the club amid an extremely tough time.

He said: “I’ve done the very best I can for my club and for my players.

“I’ve always tried to support my players behind the scenes and they all know that. And that’s the most important thing for me.

“I think the club can stay in the division if they hold onto their players. If not it’s going to be a tough ask.”

“We understand this will be a difficult and uncertain time for the club, its staff, its loyal fan base and the local community.

“The administrators will be in a position to provide further information and their plan to seek to secure the long term future of the club in due course.”
