Dundee have confirmed they have had a request to postpone this afternoon’s Premiership clash with Aberdeen rejected by the SPFL – with the Dens Park side only having 14 available players, including three goalkeepers.
A statement from Dundee confirmed that a positive test for Covid has ruled out six players who were in the squad for this afternoon’s game, however, the SPFL have insisted they fulfil their fixture.
As well as the six players who are missing, one of James McPake’s coaching staff is also having to isolate ahead of the final round of games before the winter break.
Dundee‘s statement said: “We can confirm that our scheduled testing for Covid-19 this morning returned a positive case.
“As a result, five further players have been identified as close contacts.
“With these players missing and our current injury situation, we took the decision to request a postponement of today’s fixture against Aberdeen.
“The postponement request has been rejected by the SPFL and we travel with a squad of 14 players which includes 3 goalkeepers.
“A further member of the first-team coaching staff is also isolating.”
Dundee currently sit just above St Johnstone at the foot of the Premiership and defeat this afternoon will do their chances of avoiding a relegation battle no favours.
It is unclear which players are unavailable following this morning’s testing but the Dens Park side have already had to contend with several players missing through injury.
