Championship leaders Dundee United have officialy announced the signing of young striker Fin Malcolm on his first professional contract.

The Terrors have made their move to tie down the highly-rated 16-year-old, who joined the club from the Forth Valley Football Academy and has represented the U18s since the age of 14.

Since completing his move to Tannadice, the currently injured Malcolm has been developing in the club’s youth academy and will be hoping to make his first-team bow in the near future.

Speaking about the youngster putting pen to paper, the club’s Academy Director Andy Goldie said: “We are delighted that Fin has committed his immediate future to Dundee United Football Club and look forward to seeing his continued progression at the High Performance Centre.

“As with all Academy graduates, it is important that he understands how he has achieved this milestone and must continue to show the levels of commitment and sacrifice that we have come to expect of him throughout his journey in the Academy.

“He is a striker who enjoys the physical side of the game, works relentlessly out of possession and, as we seen recently on his debut for the Reserves, is composed in front of goal.

“He has had a challenging 6-8 months with an injury however he is already showing signs of getting back to his best at both club and international level and will now push towards his next goal.”

The future?

Malcolm – who scored on his debut for the reserves against Morton recently – clearly has a very bright future ahead of him.

The fact the Scotland youth international has spent quite a bit of time playing above his own age group is surely going to do wonders for his development.

With the club comfortably clear at the top of the Championship, perhaps there’s a reasonable chance Malcolm could be making his Premiership bow in 2020/21.
