The Scottish Premiership team of the month for February certainly has an interesting look to it. It includes six Celtic players, one Hamilton player, and four Dundee United players.

Interestingly, Dundee United and Celtic face off at Tannadice this weekend. So 10 of the best players in February will be in action against each other, injury permitting.

Three goals and an assist

The four Dundee United players that have received the accolade are goalkeeper Benjamin Sigerist, centre-back Ryan Edwards, right-midfielder Liam Smith and striker Lawrence Shankland.

Shankland was selected as he provided three goals and an assist in February. That is a record that most strikers would be proud of.

Meanwhile, the stats reveal that Siegrist had more saves than any other goalkeeper – 29 – in February.

Quartet will be key in top six battle

The Tannadice quarter will be key for the club in their attempts to keep their top six dreams alive. Saturday’s draw with Kilmarnock puts United as second favourites behind St Mirren to claim a top six place.

In fact, United will be looking for St Mirren to drop points against Rangers on Saturday to keep their top six hopes alive. Should that happen, Micky Mellon’s side will be looking to set up a final game battle for the top six by defeating Celtic.

For that to happen, the quartet will need to be at their best. The fact that four Dundee United players are in the team of the month is testament to how well the team has performed recently. Mellon will want that to continue in the last two games before the Premiership split.
