Dundee United forward Lawrence Shankland and manager Robbie Neilson have claimed the Championship monthly awards for August.
Shankland has won the Championship Player of the Month whilst Neilson takes home the league’s Manager of the Month. They are both worthy winners, after a brilliant August for the Tayside club.

Neilson has guided the Tangerines to four straight victories, which has allowed them to open up a three point gap at the top of the table.
His man of the moment Shankland has scored a spectacular eight goals this term already.

It was never going to be anybody else for either award was it? Both United men have excelled at the start of the Championship season.

Wins over Inverness, Partick and Dunfermline gave Neilson the dream start to his Championship season. A thumping derby win just sealed things for him.
The Tangerines coasted past city rivals Dundee at Tannadice with a 6-2 win. It was probably the best performance of the Neilson era at Dundee United and it has set them up nicely for their next run of games.
Shankland started his campaign with a quadruple against Inverness on the opening day. He has since scored once against Partick, two against the Pars and the one against Dundee.

These are great awards for Neilson and Shankland but they must build on them at Dundee United. Their next game sees them travel to Ayr who are in second place.
If they win that, they could be as far as six points ahead in first before a home match against Arbroath, plus a run of fixtures against the current bottom four.
It has been a good start to the season nonetheless for United. Neilson and Shankland deserve the monthly awards.
