Dunfermline man Kyle Turner aiming for seeded section of League Cup draw

He was brought up as a Celtic fan – but Kyle Turner is hoping Dunfermline can avoid a meeting of similar quality in the last 16 of the League Cup.

The Pars’ progression to the last 16 of the tournament is sorted but victory over Clyde this afternoon would secure their spot in the seeded section of the draw. It would help them avoid a tie similar to a meeting with Celtic last term.

That’s the goal for Turner ahead of a clash with the Bully Wee, saying that whilst the Pars who are yet to suffer defeat this term fancy their chances against anyone, they want an easy path at this stage.

“We want to get through the group and if we win on Saturday, we win the group,” said Turner. “We want to win every game we play and make it four out of four.

“We drew Celtic last year so that illustrates how close you are to a big tie if you progress. It could be another Celtic or Rangers again, that would be good but it would be good to try and miss them this time – or at least play them a wee bit later!

“It’s just the luck of the draw and if things go your way then you could have a great chance to have a real run in the competition. We’ll take anyone.

“We wouldn’t be scared of playing anyone with the way we are playing right now. It would obviously be much tougher playing a Celtic or Rangers than another team, but we’ll fancy ourselves against pretty much anyone.

“I think you saw that against Kilmarnock. Although they had a weakened team, we went down there and won 3-0 against a Premiership team.”
