Sheffield Wednesday academy product Isaac Rice won’t be joining Dunfermline Athletic this summer after appearing as a trialist, NTOF understands.

The 20-year-old defender is without a club after being released by Sheffield Wednesday earlier this summer. He was highly-rated at the English League One club and Rice was one of five Dunfermline trialists in a 2-2 draw with Lowland League side Spartans this week.

Dunfermline manager Peter Grant used his contacts to bring the 20-year-old on trial but terms have not been agreed to make Rice a permanent player in Fife. Rice did make a positive impression in the 2-2 Spartans draw but will not feature for Grant in the 2021/22 cinch Championship.

Grant signed Dundee United goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet prior to his first pre-season friendly as Dunfermline manager. A statement from the East End Park club reads: “We would like to thank both Dundee United and Deniz’s representative for their help in allowing the switch to East End Park to happen.”
