We continue our season review of 2018/19 with a look at Motherwell’s David Turnbull.
David Turnbull’s breakthrough into the Motherwell side is one of the most notable Scottish football stories of the season.
In 2017/18 Turnbull played five games for the Steelmen, scoring one goal. However, in the season that has just ended it was a different story.
Eased any relegation worries
He scored a superb 16 goals from the middle of the park, easing any fears Motherwell had about getting dragged into the relegation dogfight.
That number of goals from a central midfielder is an anomaly. It is no shock that clubs are queuing up to express their interest in the player.
The Daily Record recently claimed that Celtic and nine other clubs are interested in signing the player. With an asking price of £3 million, that will see the Steelmen receive a club record fee for the player.
Money would be huge boost to club
That money would be a huge boost to the Steelmen. It does seem that the player will move on from Motherwell in the summer.
However, that should not take away from what he has done for Motherwell in the last 12 months.
He has scored plenty of goals, helped the side avoid relegation, and is set to make the Steelmen plenty of money.
The other sore point for the Motherwell fans will be that it seems inevitable he will leave the club in the summer. Despite that, he will rightfully be considered a Motherwell hero.
