Aberdeen academy product Ethan Ross will not be returning to the Pittodrie club, amid interest from English League One club Sunderland (P & J).

It was reported last week that Sunderland were interested in the playmaker who spent part of last season at cinch Championship club Raith Rovers. Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass hope to persuade the youngster to sign a new deal after his most recent one expired, but it has proven unsuccessful.

Ross will instead mull over his options elsewhere, with England the likely destination, whether that be with Sunderland or elsewhere. Blackburn Rovers have also been suggested as a potential destination.

Aberdeen are back in pre-season training ahead of the new 2020/21 season. They kick off their competitive matches next month in the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League against Swedish side BK Häcken. It will mean a return to Gothenburg, where Aberdeen famously beat Real Madrid to win the in 1983 European Cup Winners’ Cup.
