Falkirk have had two Covid-19 cases confirmed ahead of their match with Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

It’s not ideal news ahead of a match with a Rangers side who haven’t lost in all competitions this term. Already the Bairns have dealt with Covid-19 problems in this competition, handed a 3-0 win in the group stage after a virus outbreak at Kilmarnock.

“Falkirk Football Club can today confirm that after our round of testing ahead of Sunday’s Betfred Cup fixture against Rangers, two members of the playing staff have tested positive for COVID-19,” a statement reads.

“The players who returned positive results will self-isolate in line with Scottish Government guidelines. We wish both players all the best and look forward to welcoming them back to The Falkirk Stadium when it is safe to do so.

“In accordance with Scottish football’s Return to Playing Protocols, the Joint Response Group has been informed of the situation. We have also provided the Scottish Government’s expert group with the necessary information relating to training ground data and manifests.

“We are pleased to report that no further individuals have been identified as close contacts but we have reminded the coaches and playing staff to be extra vigilant and ensure all guidance is adhered to ahead of the weekend’s fixture.”
