The SPFL have requested an emergency meeting with the Scottish Government to discuss ending the current lock-out of fans from stadiums.
At the moment only clubs in Tier 1 areas can have a small number of fans attending games. In England fans will be allowed to attend sports events from the 2nd of December.
Chief executive Neil Doncaster has called for First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to allow fans to return to Scottish grounds.
“We are now calling on the First Minister to do the right thing by Scotland’s hard-pressed football supporters. If it’s good enough for English fans, it must be good enough for Scottish fans” Doncaster begun.

“We have written to the First Minister seeking an emergency meeting, because time is really against us” Doncaster concluded.
However, it seems that there might not be a meeting any time soon. Nicola Sturgeon has responded to the SPFL’s statement, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“There is a difference right now between case levels in England and Scotland. However much Neil Doncaster, for reasons I understand, is only looking at football, we can’t see any sector, or any part of society, in isolation. We can see that light getting brighter on the horizon, but I’m afraid the next few months will still involve some tough decisions” Sturgeon said.
It seems that for the moment the situation will remain the same. That could be a worrying situation for clubs in Scottish football. Only time will tell if the First Minister will agree to any meeting.

What does seem to be the case though is that the Scottish Government won’t give Scottish football any preferential treatment.
That is unfortunate, when you consider how important the Scottish game is to so many people around the world. For the moment though, it looks like the wait for fans to return will go on.
