David Preece is contention to return to Sunderland as the former Aberdeen goalkeeper aims for a role within UK football.
The 44-year-old came through the ranks at Sunderland before becoming a well-liked figure at Pittodrie during six years with Aberdeen. After retirement, he has worked between various media roles and coaching, last with Scandinavian club Ostersunds FK.
Preece could be set for a permanent return to UK football, with Sunderland reviewing him as a potential goalkeeper coach. Manager Lee Johnson had him coaching the goalkeepers during Sunderland’s pre-season camp in Scotland.
The Sunderland manager said of the former Aberdeen goalkeeper (Chronicle): “There’s a vacancy on the staff and we have interviewed four [coaches], with a couple due to come back for another conversation.
“I’m pretty confident that we will have somebody of quality in that position, and David is one of the contenders.”
