Four-and-a-half years ago, James Maddison was plying his trade with Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership – now Premier League giants Arsenal want to sign him for £60 million (Daily Mail).
Maddison signed a new four-year deal with Leicester City last summer and contributed 14 goals between December and February last season. Now Arsenal are said to have made him one of their top transfer targets this summer and believe a package worth £60 million could get the job done.
It has been claimed that Leicester City rejected a bid of around £70 million for Maddison last summer. Arsenal are seeking a replacement for creative midfielder Martin Odegaard and could turn to Aberdeen’s former attacking midfielder.
The Arsenal target arrived at Aberdeen in January 2017 and made a big impression during his six-month loan spell, including a stunning free-kick against Rangers at Pittodrie. He returned south of the border to play regularly with Norwich City, where after one season of regular football, he completed his move to Leicester.
Former Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes’ loan signing could now cost Arsenal mega-money at the highest level.
