Preston North End have confirmed that former Hamilton Accies and Norwich City manager Alex Neil has left Deepdale.
The 39-year-old has been in charge at the English Championship club since the summer of 2017 but now leaves after a run of two wins in 13 matches, sitting nine points above the relegation zone ahead of a match with Norwich City.

Neil had a fine playing career, featuring for Airdrieonians, Barnsley and Mansfield Town before a lengthy 10-year stint with Hamilton Accies, where he made over 200 appearances and guided them into the Scottish Premiership as manager in 2014.
He then moved to Norwich City for two years between 2015 and 2017 before getting the Preston North End job. Now the club have announced they will be looking for a new boss.
A statement reads: “Preston North End Football Club can confirm that it has today parted with the services of its Manager, Alex Neil. Alex joined the club in the summer of 2017 and he leaves us with our thanks and very best wishes for the future.

“It is the intention that Frankie McAvoy will take up the position of interim Head Coach and work with Steve Thompson, Mike Pollitt and Paul Gallagher in taking the team for the remaining eight games of the season.”
