Ex-Hibs midfielder Emerson Hyndman is on the move. Atalanta United have confirmed the American midfielder has joined them on loan, with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the 2019 MLS season.

Hyndman had two spells in the SPFL. Initially joining Rangers, he spent six months at Easter Road during the first part of the 2018/19 campaign.

Hyndman never got going at Hibs

The midfielder was brought to Easter Road by Neil Lennon. The hope was that he could be a short-term solution to the hole left in the Hibs squad by departing loanee Scott Allan.

It just never worked out like that though. Hyndman has ability but it just wasn’t to be at Hibs. In fairness to him he made 19 appearances for the Easter Road club, only really showing in fits and starts what he was truly capable of.

If he wasn’t appearing from the bench he was getting hooked at some point during the game. Whilst he had decent ability on the ball, Hyndman couldn’t adapt his game to suit Scottish football requirements.

He’s very clearly never going to be a Premier League footballer at Bournemouth, not at this stage anyway. After a couple of frustrating loan stints in Scotland, a loan move back to the US gives him a chance to rebuild his career in new surroundings.

It’ll be interesting to see how he does over in the MLS. One thing is for certain, and that’s that him and Hibs just weren’t compatible for the most part.
