Gary Holt has once again praised Aston Villa loanee Matija Sarkic, but he’s calling on his Livingston players to help him out.

The Montenegro international was in fine form at the weekend in spite of a 4-0 defeat to Celtic. The Villa Park man made countless saves during the match.

Whilst Holt appreciates the efforts from the recently capped Montenegro international, he wants his other Livi stars to ease the pressure on him.

He told the Daily Record (page 78, 24/11/19): “At times, I felt we could be braver on the ball. Celtic never really cut us open too many times or scored world class goals.

“My keeper did really well, he made some good saves. He made one with his face and it’s gone up in the air but no one reacted to help him out. He did his bit but we have to be braver. We’ve got to help him, dig him out of a hole at times.

“That’s the ugly side of the game you have to do – throw your body in front of something.”

Sarkic dealt with Parkhead pressure

Since his Premiership debut against the Hoops, Sarkic has featured seven times in the league for Livi. It has even earned him a spot in the Montenegro international scene with a debut against Belarus occurring last week.

He’s made the number one shirt his own and showed why he deserves that spot again in Glasgow.

Celtic had 12 shots on target (BBC) on Saturday and Sarkic had to be on his toes throughout the 90 minutes. It was tough afternoon for him, with Livi now just two points clear of the drop zone following this result.

Their next match against Hamilton will be a big one and a good performance from Sarkic will be key to their success.
