Hamilton defender Markus Fjørtoft is in a seemingly upbeat mood ahead of his side’s match against Celtic this weekend.

Brian Rice’s men go into this game off the back of a 2-2 draw with Hearts at Tynecastle. They currently sit seventh in the table after collecting four points from their opening four games.

Fjørtoft insists that Accies are capable of giving Celtic ‘a good match’ on Saturday.

He told Accies TV: “There’s not much expectation when it comes to our own performance. Having said that, as a team, we know what we are good at. I think we can put in a good performance and give them a good match.

“We’ll give it our best go and I think we can really match them.”

Hamilton need to work hard to fulfill Fjørtoft’s belief

The Norwegian arrived in South Lanarkshire this summer following a spell in America. He has since played two games, with his first start coming in the game at Tynecastle.

Saturday’s match with Celtic could provide him with a first home start for Accies. It will be a baptism of fire if he is in the starting XI, as Celtic are usually very good against his team.

They have won the last nine matches against Saturday’s home side and are looking to make it ten. It has been pretty one sided too, with the Hoops scoring 22 to Hamilton’s three. Accies didn’t net against them last season either.

Celtic should not underestimate Rice’s men though. They are in decent form heading into this game and there’s a positive mood in the camp if Fjørtoft’s comments are anything to go by.
