Nobody else has managed to beat Celtic at home domestically this season, but Hamilton boss Brian Rice believes Hamilton have the potential to cause a monumental Parkhead upset.
Accies will face a Celtic side in formidable domestic home form, having lost just once in over 80 matches against Scottish opposition. Hamilton drew their last game 0-0 with Livingston.
The odds are stacked against them but Rice is insisting that you never know what can happen in football.
He told the Daily Record (01/11/12, page 74): “We go to Celtic Park on Wednesday night and we know how difficult that is going to be. When you have courage and when you have determination and a wee bit of organisation you just never know.
“But we are attempting to do something Lazio haven’t done and Rennes haven’t done and no other team in Scotland has done. “We all know the story of David and Goliath so you have just got to believe.
“If things go your way and you get the rub of the green or someone does something special then you can get something out of the game.”
Rice in confident mood ahead of Parkhead visit
In their last game against the Hoops, Accies pushed the Glasgow side all the way. An early goal from James Forrest settled the match but Rice’s men did well to match their opponents.
Accies have only scored three goals since 2011 at Parkhead and they’ll definitely need to score at least a couple in Glasgow. Celtic have scored more than two on seven occasions in that time frame.
These games are a free hit essentially for Rice but he’ll want his side to compete. Celtic were frustrated at Parkhead last season, winning 1-0 against Hamilton. The away side did enough though to hassle the home side.
A similarly workmanlike performance will be needed if Rice’s side are to take anything from this game.
