Montrose manager Stewart Petrie has backed Harry Cochrane for full-time football as he prepares to leave Hearts amid links to the likes of Brentford.

The Bees are said to be monitoring the talented midfielder’s progress as his Hearts contract comes to a close. Cochrane impressed at loan club Montrose on Saturday as they lost 3-1 to Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup, Montrose fighting for promotion out of League One.

Having announced his Hearts exit at the end of the season as teams such as Brentford are linked, Petrie believes Cochrane and his teammates have earned a beer: “I don’t think there is any doubt about him playing full-time football. I think if you look against Kilmarnock that tells you everything you need to know about Harry.

“He’s been out for about a month and to come back and give us that level there is no doubt in mind that he will be back playing full-time football. I thought Harry was outstanding throughout the game. I am proud of the boys. We were brave, passed it well and created good chances.

“If we take a few of them, then you never know but I was really happy with the performance. They should be proud of themselves and I have told them to have a good weekend now. Have a few beers and then we can recover over the next few days and get ready for Tuesday night.”
