Hearts boss Robbie Neilson thinks last night’s Scottish Premiership clash with Celtic shows why the sooner the SPFL implements VAR the better after two of the three goals scored were offside.
Giorgios Giakoumakis and Liam Boyce both scored from offside positions and Neilson thinks that referee John Beaton was let down by his assistants in the Tynecastle clash.
The Hearts boss insists the officials have “got to see it” and bemoaned the fact that decisions like last night are seen every week in Scottish football.
“The ref done alright but I thought the linesman let him down,” Neilson said.
“The Celtic goal and our goal were two poor decisions.
“You get decisions like that every week. It’s clear cut, he’s got to see it. There’s nobody in between.
“We’re all for VAR and the sooner we get it the better.”
While the Hearts gaffer was left unhappy with the officials, he was pleased with the performance of debutant Ellis Simms.
The Jambos boss was happy to see his new signing get 45 minutes under his belt just hours after his move from Everton was completed, calling his performance a “very good marker.”
“Simms coming in and getting game time, you can see he’s going to be a top player for us,” Neilson added.
“The plan was to get him half an hour so getting 45 minutes out of him was great. I was very impressed with him. We knew what he could do but it was just a case of whether he could do it for us? Tonight was a very good marker.”
