Hearts fans have been reacting to Neil Critchley’s post-match thoughts after the side’s disappointing defeat to Cercle Brugge.

The Jambos blew a great opportunity to qualify for the Europa Conference League knockout play-off round after just four games as they lost 2-0 to the Belgians.

Cercle didn’t exactly put on a great performance of their own but were obviously much more clinical than Hearts and that was bemoaned by Critchley after the game.

Captain Lawrence Shankland’s woes continued as he missed a crucial penalty and Critchley thinks ‘fine margins’ are costing his team, who he thinks are playing well despite their poor form.

Hear what the Hearts manager had to say below.

Some Hearts fans defend Critchley

Jambos are divided over Thursday night’s game and what Critchley had to say after the loss.

Some are largely defending the ex-Blackpool boss, with one fan posting on X: “I think he sums it up pretty well…..I don’t think naming and shaming is good, it’s a team game, all take responsibility and managers will always be under pressure…..it’s part and parcel of the job. I think he’s making a difference but clearly struggling as a unit atm.”

Another wrote: “Really can’t blame Critchley! He’s using a squad built by previous managers! He had to use Barrie and Boycie as subs tonight?”

And this supporter said: “I 100% back Neil.”

This Hearts fan posted: “Think the fans are all behind critchley to be fair, it’s the players that’s going to get the pressure now.”

Another said: “Totally behind Critchley. Can see he’s a very good coach, we’re much better out of possession than has been the case. He needs time and some pace in January.”

Critchley criticised by other Hearts fans

But there are others who are critical of the Hearts manager. One said: “Never thought I say it but the pressure is building on Critchley. The Honeymoon period is over. Lose to Aberdeen and Critchley will feel the heat but I think he won’t be judged till he gets his own players.”

Another posted: “That could be a (Steven) Naismith interview. Almost identical excuses.”

This fan said: “Bulls**t. Come and say it Neil, you let that massive traveling support down tonight !”

While this punter wrote: “It’s simple board appointed wrong manager his record is terrible. Why didn’t they get someone more experienced.”
