Hearts have been hit with a blow ahead of next weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final as Preston North End loanee Josh Ginnelly becomes a doubt for the match against Hibs.

Ginnelly joined the Jambos in the summer on loan from English Championship side Preston. He’s enjoyed a positive start to life in Gorgie, leading to permanent contract talks already.

He scored and assisted in the Championship opener against Dundee whilst also impressing in the League Cup group stage meetings.

Robbie Neilson’s men secured their second Championship win of the season on Friday night, beating Arbroath 1-0 at Gayfield. But it came at a cost, their Preston loanee hobbling off.

It’s been confirmed that the winger has picked up a thigh knock, one which could rule him out of next week’s clash at least. It’s a huge game too, Hearts facing Edinburgh rivals Hibs in a Scottish Cup semi-final.

This last four encounter was due to be played last season, but the 19/20 campaign’s Scottish Cup tournament has been extended into this term after the SPFL shutdown earlier this year.
