Highly-rated Celtic coach John McLaughlan has left the Parkhead club to take up a role as Hearts’ academy coaching development manager (Sun).

The role has been described as ‘key’ and McLaughlan will help academy players at Hearts progress into the first-team, once his move from Celtic is made official. It’s part of some changes behind the scenes at Hearts, Steven Naismith named football development manager. McLaughlan has worked with youngsters at Parkhead.

34-year-old Naismith has retired from football to take up his behind the scenes role at Tynecastle. Robbie Neilson’s side are back in the cinch Premiership this season after winning the Championship in the 2021/22 term and they begin their campaign on Sky Sports against Celtic at Tynecastle.

Winger Josh Ginnelly has rejoined the club following a loan spell in Gorgie in 21/22, Neilson commenting: “I’m delighted to get Josh in permanently. He’s an explosive player, capable of providing a spark that can swing games in your favour.

“We saw glimpses of how good he was last season and now, with a full pre-season under his belt, he will hopefully go on to be a very important player for us.”
