Hearts goalkeeper Joel Pereira has spoken with fondness about his relationship with Manchester United keeper David de Gea.
The pair have been at United together for many years, although they have been separated this term, with the Portuguese stopper spending time on loan with the Jambos.
Pereira will have to dislodge his Spanish pal if he wants to become the Red Devils number one, but he says that hasn’t affect their relationship.
He told the Daily Record (page 72, 20/10/19): “I have an amazing relationship with David and I was so pleased for him when signed his new contract. I wasn’t angry, I was more happy than anyone.
“We’re good friends and that’s what he wanted. As for me, I still have time. You never know what can happen in football.
“I will always wish that I make it at United. That’s my dream so I have to be positive about it.”

The two are clearly good friends. Pereira hasn’t held back in his praise for the Spaniard whilst De Gea is hoping his Portuguese mate succeeds at Tynecastle .
He may be friends with the United mainstay, but De Gea is the biggest block in the road in terms of Pereira’s United ambitions. Whilst the Spanish keeper is at Old Trafford, he’ll be number one.
Even Sergio Romero and Dean Henderson are likely to get a look-in before Pereira does. In any case, it looks as if the United first-team is a long way off.
Pereira has the Hearts squad to worry about this term though, which he will hope to use as a case to show why he deserves an Old Trafford chance.
