Musa Drammeh was handed his first start for Hearts six months after signing.

And while he may not have been credited with the goal against Aberdeen he certainly had a big impact.

The striker, 22, has been kicking his heels so far this season and prior to the weekend had only made three sub appearances – two against Celtic and one against Rangers.

The man who signed him, former manager Steven Naismith, talked about how the former Sevilla B man had to adapt to Scottish football after playing in the fourth tier in his homeland.

The Jambos have been struggling for goals but Drammeh still struggled to break in until scoring in that final cameo against Celtic.

New boss Neil Critchley handed him a start against the Dons and he repaid the faith with a big performance and having a hand in the goal.

Drammeh claiming Hearts goal

From Blair Spittal’s cross, Drammeh got across his man and got a flicked header onto the ball before it came off Nicky Devlin and found the net.

It was a big moment for Hearts who avoided another defeat and scored their first goal since the same player’s consolation against Celtic.

And while it has been credited as a Devlin own goal, Drammeh is claiming it.

He said: “I was thinking the whole game I was going to score. For me, it’s my goal. I touched it and we score so…”

Drammeh also admitted it was an “incredible” feeling to get his first start after so long on the sidelines, a wait which all becomes worth it.

He added: “It was incredible because it has been a tough month for me because I didn’t play, I didn’t make the squad.

“For someone who is 22 and comes from Spain to here alone, it’s difficult but that’s worth it. Worth it, very much.”

Hearts exclusion caused Drammeh sleepless nights

When Hearts had to register their list of registered players for the Conference League there were always going to be members of their large squad who missed out.

Drammeh was one of them and Naismith gave him a similar explanation to the one he gave publicly.

It caused the player sleepless nights and he is adamant he could have been contributing earlier.

“The day [Steven] Naismith told me this I didn’t sleep,” he revealed. “That was so bad. But that’s football.

“They sent me a message saying I was not going to be in the squad but I’m going to have more game time. He told me I had to understand Scottish football.

“They explained to me that I came from a lower division in Spain, so I needed time to get used to Scottish football. But I think the Musa of four months ago and now is not too different.

“I don’t know if I played three months ago if I would have helped score these goals. But I think if you are a footballer, you think you are ready for that.

“When you don’t play, you always think, did I make a mistake or not,” Musa said. “But I think that’s worth it because you’re in the first division, you’re in this club with these fans.

“So, for me, I’m 100% secure. I’m going to be good here.”
