Hearts will pay tribute to their late captain Marius Zaliukas ahead of Sunday’s match with Celtic.

The Jambos take to Scottish Cup final action against Celtic, looking to end the Hoops’ dominance in the competition during recent seasons. It’s a repeat of the 2019 final between the Tynecastle and Celtic Park side’s.

On the day Hearts secured progression to this match with a 2-1 victory over Hibs, news broke of former captain Zaliukas’ passing.

The Lithuanian was skipper during the last Hearts Scottish Cup success, the 5-1 victory over Hibs, which has gone down as one of the club’s greatest ever results. Now the capital side will show their love on Sunday.

Each maroon player will wear the number 26 on their shorts, Zaliukas’ famous number, when they try and upset the odds against Celtic. This would be Hearts’ 3rd Scottish Cup in 16 years.

But Celtic stand in their way and this will be an extremely tough test for Robbie Neilson’s men. Regardless, it’s a poignant act from the Gorgie outfit.

It’s not the only triibute to be paid during Celtic v Hearts. Jambo players well also wear Tiny Changes Hearts shirts during the warm-up in tribute to Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, who took his own life in 2018.

Tiny Changes is a mental health charity founded in 2019 following this and these shirts when initially released in July raised £35,000 for the organisation. These were also worn in the semi-final against Hibs.
