Hibs appoint former US international to backroom staff

Hibs have appointed former US international Jon Busch to Shaun Maloney’s coaching staff, replacing Craig Samson as the Head of Goalkeeping at Easter Road.

The former star, who played alongside Maloney at MLS side Chicago Fire, has been working as Academy Goalkeeping Coach since 2017 with Indy XI.

Busch also represented Colombus Crew and San Jose Earthquakes in MLS, and won 2008 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year while in Chicago.

The keeper would sign a one-day contract to return to Columbus in 2018 to allow him to retire as a Crew player having won the 2002 U.S. Open Cup and the 2004 Supporters’ Shield there.

With Busch’s arrival at Easter Road, Samson has now departed Easter Road as Maloney rounds off his coaching staff at the club.

As well as working with the keepers at Indy XI, Busch has also passed on his expertise to keepers in the US Youth National Teams ranging from U14 to U23, which includes the US Olympics Soccer Team.

Since taking the reins at Easter Road, Maloney has already added Gary Caldwell (Assistant Manager), Valerio Zuddas (First Team Coach and Conditioning) and Brian Doogan (Head of Technical Support), to his coaching staff, with Hibs legend David Gray also part of his backroom team.
