Hibs star details how they’re ‘proper team’ and have shown they’re in it together

Just when it looked like Hibs were heading for another defeat they pulled something out the bag – twice.

David Gray’s side showed the character they’ve been accused of not having to score TWO stoppage time equalisers to snatch a home point against Aberdeen on Tuesday.

First Nicky Cadden flashed in an incredible free-kick with a moment of individual brilliance – but they then allowed Ester Sokler in at the other end to put the Dons 3-2 in front in the 95h minute.

There was still time for makeshift centre forward Rocky Bushiri to force in another leveller to grab what had looked an unlikely draw.

The manager has been critical of his players for throwing away games in the closing stages this season but this time Gray praised the character as well as talking about how delighted he was for ‘model professional’ Bushiri.

Warren O’Hora insists Hibs are ‘proper team’

Warren O’Hora delivered a similar message about his new centre-half partner. The Irishman, along with Marvin Ekpiteta, has been keeping the Congo international out of the side.

But they’ve been playing together in Ekpiteta’s absence.

O’Hora was chuffed for his partner but also underlined how that moment showed the character and resilience that does exist within this squad.

He insists Hibs are a ‘proper’ team that is fully behind each other and their manager.

The former MK Dons man said: “Rocky, he’s been great for us. I’m absolutely delighted for him. He’s had a tough time since I’ve come to the club. He hasn’t played a lot. He’s been brilliant since he’s come in.

“That shows you that the boys who haven’t played as much and are coming into the last two or three games are coming off the bench, they’re all behind the gaffer.

“We’re all working really, really hard to get up the table for ourselves as well. Because we’re a proper team and that showed in the character to stand up against Aberdeen.

“Obviously, there have been question marks over the character of the team over the last few weeks. We are where we are in the league, that happens. The league never lies.

“But they’re all behind the gaffer 100 per cent. There’s no doubt about it. There’s nobody in the dressing room feeling any different. I don’t think we’d allow it in any way, anyone who would ever feel like they’re breaking away from the group or not behind the staff.

“The gaffer and his staff have been amazing for us. You’ve seen it in the celebrations when we scored at the end.”

Individual errors still costing Hibs

Gray has been telling the same old story post-match pretty much all season – individual errors are costing him and his side.

It was the same again as back-up goalkeeper Jordan Smith, in for the dropped Josef Bursik, didn’t fare much better.

O’Hora admits it is still the team’s Achilles heel but held his hands up to being the one that cost the team against St Mirren recently.

When it was suggested individual errors still need cut out, he said: “One hundred per cent, yeah of course. That happens everywhere in football, it’s the fine margins. One step in the wrong direction and it could be a mistake and lead to a goal.

“We’re in the top division in Scotland, you’ve got to get punished. Some silly decisions over the weeks, 100 per cent.

“I was in the exact same boat a couple of weeks ago – I made a silly mistake and we conceded from it. It does happen, there’s no doubt about it, we need to cut it out.

“We are where we are because of it. There’s no shying away from that.”
