Whether it’s sun-soaked Barcelona or Easter Road – Hibs’ Josh Doig is keen to play every week amid links to English Premier League clubs like Leeds United.
The 18-year-old has won the Scottish Football Writers Association’s Young Player of the Year Award after a stunning breakthrough term at Hibs after a loan spell at Queen’s Park. It’s resulted in links to Leeds United and Leicester City among others, but Doig is contracted to Hibs until 2025.
He says it’s a thrill to have interest from teams like Leeds United but he’s very happy at Hibs for now: “It’s crazy to be linked with those clubs. I’ve grown up watching them so for any of them to show an interest is amazing. Whatever happens, happens. But as long as I’m playing football, whether it’s here, Barcelona or Queen’s Park – that’s all I want.
“I absolutely adore being at Hibs. In my first season, how I’ve been treated by the players and staff, it’s like nowhere else I’ve experienced in my life. It’s so good here. I want to keep working hard and give everything I’ve got to the club. I’m happy and that’s all that matters.
“I know Hibs can provide a great pathway to go to higher places – just look at the likes of John McGinn – but this is still a massive club in itself. I don’t think there’s a better place to develop as a young player. I know in myself that I’ve come on so much.”
