Hibs midfielder Josh Vela has departed the club for English League One side Shrewsbury Town.

The battler arrived in Leith from Bolton during the summer. It was Paul Heckingbottom that brought him to Easter Road and initially he was given chances to impress.

Under Jack Ross though things have changed. Vela hasn’t made a matchday squad since the former St Mirren manager took over from Heckingbottom and has found himself out in the Leith cold.

A decision to let him go has been made and he will now join Shrewsbury of League One. He joins former Hibs striker Jason Cummings at the side currently sitting 16th in the English third tier.

In total he made nine Premiership appearances for the Hibees. Vela’s last performance for them came in a 5-2 League Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic at the start of November.

Ross has already cut his ties with Glenn Middleton this month, who headed back to Rangers after finding his Easter Road minutes limited.
