Jack Ross is understood to left his post as Hibs manager after last night’s defeat by Livingston left the Easter Road side sitting seventh in the Premiership table.

The Daily Mail report the Easter Road hierarchy have decided to sack Ross after only managing wins over St Johnstone in the league since August.

With only one win in their last nine league games, Hibs have gone from challenging at the top of the table to being in danger of getting sucked into a relegation battle – with the Cabbage only five points clear of the playoff places.

Ross joined Hibs just over two years ago after spells with Alloa, St Mirren and Sunderland, and admitted the calls for his head during the defeat by Livingston were ‘justified’ as he took responsibility for his side’s failing.

Despite their woeful league form, Hibs are in next week’s League Cup final against Celtic at Hampden but will now have a caretaker in charge unless they can appoint a new manager quickly.

Some fans have been suggesting ex-Hamilton and Preston boss Alex Neil would be their pick and his previous links to Easter Road chief executive Ben Kensell could add some weight to it.

The pair worked together at Norwich City while Neil was manager there and Kensell worked in the Canaries’ commercial department before going their separate ways.
