Hibs could be set to make a reunion with Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths a reality as the Easter Road club put the boyhood Hibee on a transfer shortlist (EEN).

Griffiths is out of contract at Celtic from today and there is huge uncertainty over the vacant managerial position at Parkhead after a breakdown in talks with potential manager Eddie Howe. There is a contract extension clause in his current Celtic deal but it has not been taken up as of yet. He has enjoyed huge success in Glasgow since 2014 but has scored just two goals since Christmas.

Now 30, Griffiths enjoyed a fine spell at his boyhood heroes between 2011-13. His Celtic form has had him miss out on Steve Clarke’s squad for Euro 2020 and Griffiths admits he doesn’t deserve a place at Scotland’s first major tournament since 1998 (Go Radio): “It’s disappointing but I don’t think I did enough to deserve a place in the squad.

“The focus for me over the summer is to get as fit as I can and be ready for pre-season wherever that is and hit the ground running. I need to wait on the new manager getting announced and see what plans he has for me.

“If he doesn’t see me in his plans then it’s off to pastures new. If that’s the case I’ve had great years at Celtic and put myself into the history books in the top 20 goalscorers. Not seeing your name there was disappointing. I thought 99 per cent that I wouldn’t be in it. But there’s always the slight chance you’re hoping he might take a chance on me.”
