Roy Hodgson has said that Crystal Palace are very close to completing a deal for Dundee United’s Scott Banks.

Reports have circled in recent times that the Tangerines youngster was set for a move to Selhurst Park. Now the Eagles boss has all but confirmed the move.

The ex-England boss says Banks is a ‘very talented’ player and that he expects a deal to be concluded for him very shortly.

He told Sky Sports: “I know about Scott Banks, I think he is on the verge of joining us, but he is a very young player who Doug (Freedman) knows from Scotland.

“His first contacts with the club will probably be more on the academy side. I haven’t been able to scout him at all, but I know he is a very talented midfield player and the right type we are looking for so it will be nice to welcome him to the club.”

Turned down Tannadice stay

Banks has made four appearances for United’s senior side following a loan stint at Clyde last term. They had offered him a new deal but he has not signed on the dotted line.

He’s out of contract at the end of the term and Palace are seemingly about to take him to London prior to that. United are likely to earn a nice financial boost from this deal.

From Hodgson’s comments it appears as if Banks will go into the Crystal Palace academy. From there he will continue his development.

An official exit from Tannadice surely beckons for the young midfielder this month.
