How many points Hibs have lost from winning positions as stat shocks Alan Hutton

Hibs continue to shoot themselves in the foot, much to the frustration of their fans and manager David Gray.

The Hibees looked to be heading for a much-needed three points with victory over Dundee United at the weekend but conceded yet another late goal, this time Sam Dalby’s 90th minute penalty.

That was awarded after Mykola Kuharevich tugged the shirt of Emmanuel Adegboyega in the box, although it has been hotly disputed with Gray claiming inconstency because of the way a similar claim was dealt with at the other end.

The Easter Road side moved back to the bottom of the Premiership as they continue to trade places with rivals and fellow strugglers Hearts.

Hibs ship late goals with ‘lazy’ defending

Hibs have now lost nine goals in the last 15 minutes of games this season and as a result given up 11 points from winning positions.

The 3-2 defeat to the same opponents two weeks ago after leading 2-1 going into stoppage time is a perfect example, as is the derby draw with Hearts with a poor goal conceded in the 87th minute.

Gray has continually criticised his Hibs players for their lack of concentration in defensive positions late on, as well as their inability to have killed teams off when on top earlier on in matches. Supporters are pulling their hair out, too.

Pundit Alan Hutton is astonished by those stats and, using Kuharevich’s foul as an example, says they are guilty of “lazy” defending.

Speaking on Premier Sports’ Scottish Football Social Club, he said: “It must be so frustrating, to be quite honest with you. It just seems to be their Achilles heel.

“I think they’ve lost something like 11 points from winning positions. I mean, that’s mental.

“It’s lazy defending instead of just fronting up and marking somebody and being aggressive.

“That’s why I question ‘why do they keep losing all these late goals?’ Is it a mental thing, is it tiredness?

“Because it’s just lazy, just pulling somebody back. It’s just lazy.”

Hibs could be level on points with Rangers in third

As mentioned, the Easter Road side have shipped nine goals from 75 minutes onwards in the league this season.

That means they have dropped 11 points from winning positions.

The Hibees currently sit bottom of the table with eight points but could be significantly better off if they had been able to hold their nerve and see games out.

Those 11 points added to their eight would obviously be 19 and that is the tally Rangers currently hold in third place.
