Ian McCall has been left frustrated after an offside call went against Partick Thistle in their 2-2 draw with Falkirk at the weekend.
The match was billed as a big one, with both sides expected to fight for the League One title this season. Nothing could split them at Firhill as Callumn Morrison and Charlie Telfer goals cancelled out strikes from Joe Cardle and Brian Graham.
It leaves Thistle on four points from four games, needing to make up an eight-point gap on Cove Rangers at the League One summit. Morrison’s opener for Falkirk was offside according to McCall and he can’t believe it was allowed to stand.
“The annoying thing for me was the freak goal but I’ve been to see the linesman about it,” said McCall. “We could see at the time that the boy was offside – it was a really, really clear offside.
“It was a freak goal and that’s just the way things have been going for us. Pre-Covid we had a penalty against Queen of the South given and then not given, and the video clearly showed that their player was offside.
“They apologised and listen, I make ten mistakes a game but that’s a big call and it’s not even a hard one to see. We don’t help ourselves though – we missed a penalty and Docherty’s missed a sitter from four yards so the game should have been put to bed.
“It was a little but nervy for the last 10 minutes and we lost a scrappy goal. Falkirk are a good, strong side and their strikers caused us problems in the first half. In a game like that you can’t miss penalties and the chances that we did. You leave yourself open to what happened.
“Last week we controlled most of the second half and to concede a late goal was a kick in the you-know-whats. I’m just really disappointed with the linesman. It was so clear but he hasn’t given it as offside.”
