One of the most intriguing aspects of the Premiership this season has been the battle for third place between Aberdeen and Hibernian.
At one time it looked as if the duo could actually challenge Celtic for second spot. However, Neil Lennon’s side have put together a run of results in the last few weeks.
So, it looks as if it is all about the third place battle between Hibernian and Aberdeen. At the moment, it very much looks like the advantage is with Derek McInnes’ side.
Surprise defeat
The reason for that is a shock midweek defeat for Hibernian. They lost 2-0 at Easter Road to bottom of the table Ross County. Earlier that day, Aberdeen’s match against Livingston was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

So a day that started with frustration for the Dons ended up with them having a chance to increase their lead in third place.
As it stands, Aberdeen have played 19 games and have 38 points, whilst Hibernian have played 21 and have 36 points.
Won’t take anything for granted
Derek McInnes won’t be taking anything for granted, especially as Aberdeen’s games in hand are against Celtic and Livingston. However, as it stands it does look good in the battle for third place.

The teams are scheduled to meet at Easter Road on the sixth of February. It will be interesting to see if the gap remains the same around that time. That could also depend on the moves that each team makes in the January transfer window. For the moment though, Aberdeen look to be favourites to clinch third spot.
